For the ultimate shopping experience in Chiclayo, pay a visit to the must-see Mercado Modelo, which lies north of the Plaza de Armas and the Mercado Central.

The lively Modelo flea market ranks amongst the most interesting in the whole of Peru and boasts nothing short of a labyrinth of market stalls, selling everything from fresh produce and woven items, to craft works and even live animals.

On the south-western side of Chiclayo's popular Mercado Modelo is something quite different for those shopping for unusual souvenirs of their time in Peru, the Witch Doctor's Market.

Known locally as the Mercado de Brujos, the Witch Doctor's Market is worth exploring and comes complete with its very own shamans.
