Being sited right next to the Pacific Ocean, many restaurants in Chiclayo specialise in seafood, often offering fine dining with a view, with unmistakable native Indian, Moorish and Spanish influences.

The Lambayeque region of Peru has become well known for its specialities, such as 'espesado' - a mixture of beef, butternut squash, garlic, coriander and corn. Popular choices include Las Americas on the Aguirre, and the Hebron on the Jiron Balta, which is a local 'polleria' (a Peruvian restaurant specialising simply in roast chicken dishes). Close by and across the street, the Restaurant Romana is a good place to sample a plate of pork 'chicharrones' or even some 'chirimpico' - a tasty hangover cure of goat tripe, often served for breakfast.

If you are looking for upscale dining in Chiclayo, then look no further than the Restaurant el Huaralino on the Libertad, where Peruvian dishes are combined with Creole and international cuisine. On the westerly outskirts of Chiclayo, the 3 de Octubre suburb is home to a small selection of noteworthy eateries, such as the Restaurant Tipico la Fiesta, while for budget dining, look to the street vendors for shish kebabs (anticuchos) and boiled corn with cheese (choclo con queso).
